Belgian striker Divock Origi is set to miss the first league game of the season due to injury. The former Lille and Liverpool star has endured a frustrating start to life at AC Milan on the back of his transfer this summer. Origi ended his eight-year spell at Liverpool this summer. He left the club at the end of his contract thus paving the way for him to sign for AC Milan as a free agent.
The absence of Origi for the Venezia was confirmed via the report from Italian media outlet La Gazzettadello Sport. In addition to missing the Venezia game, Origi will most likely miss the season opener with Udinese in the Italian top flight. Milan are the defending champions after they won the Italian Serie A title last season ahead of city rivals Inter Milan. Inter Milan were the holders before they were displaced by AC Milan.
Milan will start the defence of their league title at home to Udinese and Origi is not likely to play a part in the game. The game is scheduled to take place at the San Siro next week Saturday.
Origi sustained a muscle injury at the end of last season while he was still a Liverpool player and this has affected the start of his Milan career. He has not been able to play a single game for Milan since his free transfer move to the club this summer.
