The Luciano Spalletti-led Napoli team knew that a win over Venezia will take them above AC Milan into second place and within one point of the Nerazzurion the Serie A log and they were able to achieve the win. They didn’t confirm the win until the tenth minute of added time at the end of 90 minutes.

After a goalless affair in the first 45 minutes, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen gave Napoli the lead just before the hour mark and they were able to hold on to that advantage until substitute Andrea Petagna sealed the win with the second goal late in the game. Petagna had earlier come on for Osimhen with two minutes left on the clock.

With the win at Venezia, Napoli moved level with AC Milan on 52 points and are back to second place with a better goal difference. Napoli and AC Milan are one point behind leaders and defending champions Inter Milan.

Around 24 hours earlier, AC Milan moved above Napoli thanks to their 2-1 comeback victory over Inter Milan in the Milan Derby. Hosts Inter Milan took the lead seven minutes from the half-time break and were on course for the win before things changed in the last 15 minutes. French striker Olivier Giroud showed his quality with two goals in three minutes to turn the game in the favour of AC Milan. His two goals gave Milan the points as they closed the gap on their rivals at the Italian Serie A summit.
